I was born in Hong Kong and moved to Toronto, Canada in 1973 to pursue further education. Initially studying visual art at university for two years, I later switched to Economics as earning a stable income became a priority for me at that time.
After working in a corporation and raising a family, I took early retirement and decided to revisit my passion for art. I enrolled in the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto and successfully graduated. Currently, I am continuing my master's studies under the guidance of my mentor, Ryan Gauvin.
Picking up my brushes and dedicating myself to art has truly brought me immense joy and fulfillment.
Artist's Message
In my artistic journey, I have found that the heart of my work lies in portraying the essence of humanity and the profound beauty of nature. My art serves as a medium through which I express my deep admiration for both, while also weaving captivating narratives that resonate with the viewer.
With a passion for oil portraiture and landscape painting, I have chosen to focus my artistic lens on the portrayal of women. Through my brushstrokes, I strive to capture their strength, vulnerability, and resilience, honouring the multifaceted nature of their existence. Women, in their diverse experiences and roles, serve as a source of endless inspiration for me.
In my portraiture, I seek to go beyond mere visual representation. I aim to delve into the inner world of each subject, revealing their unique stories, emotions, and journeys. Through the subtle interplay of light and shadow, texture, and colour, I endeavour to create a connection between the viewer and the painted women, inviting contemplation and empathy.
Alongside portraiture, my exploration of nature finds its place in my artistic repertoire. The natural world, with its landscapes and elements, serves as a metaphorical backdrop for the human experience. I am captivated by the symbiotic relationship between humanity and the environment, and I use landscapes as a visual narrative to highlight our interconnectedness.
Through my work, I hope to awaken a sense of wonder and introspection. I want viewers to immerse themselves in the stories and emotions that unfold on my canvas, experiencing a profound connection to the subjects and themes I portray. By showcasing the beauty of women and their relationship with nature, I aspire to empower and inspire a deeper appreciation for the world around us.
In my creative process, I embrace the timeless medium of oil painting, as it allows me to layer colours, textures, and emotions, creating depth and complexity. The rich hues and tactile qualities of oil paint lend themselves to the intricate storytelling I seek to convey.
Ultimately, my art is a celebration of the human spirit and our intricate connection to the natural world. It is a tribute to the resilience and beauty of women and a testament to the transformative power of art in illuminating the stories that lie within us all.
